Privacy Policy

WWT has no accounts and no login. Your watchlists live on your own devices and in your own iCloud. This describes the few things that do leave your device, and why. One of them, described in section 3, is counted and licensed, and this policy says so plainly rather than leaving you to discover it.

What WWT Does Not Do

WWT has no user accounts, no passwords, and no sign-up. We do not operate a server that stores your watchlists, and there is no database anywhere in which you have a record with us.

Your watchlists, ratings, watched history, episode progress and settings sync between your own devices using your personal iCloud account, through Apple's CloudKit private database. That data is held under your Apple Account, governed by Apple's privacy policy. The developer of WWT cannot read it, cannot enumerate it, and receives no copy of it.

The app does not use location services. Your region is the country you choose in WWT's own settings, seeded once from your device's locale. No location permission is requested and no positioning API is used, and your region is never derived from your internet address.

Your watchlists and ratings go to your iCloud only, and you control them.

Searching for titles Text you type into search is sent to TMDB to return matching movies and shows. No account identifier is attached to the request, because there is no account. Search text is never used for anything else, and never becomes part of the counts in section 3.

Importing from a shared post When you share a post into WWT, the post's URL is sent to WWT's own relay server. The relay asks the originating platform for that post's caption - and, when a caption alone finds nothing, its audio transcript - and extracts any film or show titles mentioned in it.

The relay caches its results. Extraction results are stored for up to 30 days, and title suggestions for up to 14 days, so that the same post shared again does not have to be fetched and processed a second time. This makes repeat imports faster and reduces cost.

Two things about that cache matter for your privacy: it is keyed by the post's own URL, and no identifier for you or your device is ever sent to the relay. The cache therefore records that a given public post was processed - not who processed it, or when you personally did. Nothing in it links back to you.

Improving title detection When you finish reviewing an import, WWT can report which of the suggested titles you kept, which you unticked, and which you added by hand. This is filed under the post's own link, alongside everyone else's answers for the same post, so that a post the app keeps getting wrong can be found and corrected. Nothing about you is sent or stored with it, and it is covered by the same setting as section 3, with a second switch of its own beneath it.

Anonymous Trend Counts, and How WWT Makes Money

WWT is free because the anonymous totals described here are licensed to studios and streaming services. You are told this before anything is counted, and you choose whether to take part.

What is counted. When a title is suggested for a post you shared, saved to a watchlist, marked watched, or unticked from an import, WWT increases a count. Each count carries the title, whether it is a film or a series, the country you chose in settings, the platform a shared post came from, and the date.

What is not counted, and cannot be. There is no account identifier, no device identifier, no advertising identifier, no installation number and no session number - none, not even a random or hashed one. There is no time of day, only the date. Your watchlists are never sent as a list, only as individual counts. Your search text is never included. The link of a post is never sent alongside what you did with it.

The consequence is the point: because nothing in a count marks where it came from, no two counts can be connected to each other, and none can be traced back to you. Not by a company that licenses the data, not by anyone who obtained the whole store, and not by us. We have not promised to avoid looking. There is nothing to look at.

Small groups are held back. Before any figure is published or licensed, counts that would describe a small number of people in one country on one day are removed and folded into a broader regional total instead. A rate, such as how often a title is saved after being suggested, is published only where enough events stand behind it. This is why a country with few WWT users will often not appear on its own in trend data, and that is the protection working rather than a gap.

What we do with it. We aggregate the counts into daily and weekly totals by title, country and platform, and license those totals commercially. The raw counts are kept for 90 days and then deleted; the aggregated totals are kept indefinitely, because they carry nothing personal at any age. You see the same figures yourself on WWT's Trending screen, whether or not you contribute to them.

Your choice. WWT asks once, plainly, before counting anything, and either answer leaves the app working identically. You can change your mind at any time in Settings under Your Data. Turning it off stops collection immediately, and anything still waiting to be sent on your device is discarded.

Your internet address. Like every web server, WWT's relay sees the address your request arrives from, because a reply has to be routed back to you. It is used to limit abuse and then discarded. It is never stored with a count, never part of an aggregate, and never used to work out your country.

Notifications

WWT can notify you when something on a watchlist gets a release date, becomes available on a service you use, or has a new episode. These notifications are scheduled and delivered on your device. No push server is involved and no list of what you are tracking is sent anywhere in order to produce them.

Advertising

WWT's free tier shows banner ads through Google AdMob. Pro subscribers see no ads at all, and no ad requests are made for them.

WWT chooses ads by context, not by you. When an ad appears beside a title, the request says what kind of thing is on screen - that it is a film or a series, and its genres. It never says anything about you: not your watchlists, not what you have saved or watched, not your searches, and nothing from the counts in section 3.

Google collects more than WWT does. Whether Google's ads are personalized depends on the choice you made when the app asked for permission to track. If you declined, ads are non-personalized. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. As declared in its own privacy manifest, Google's advertising SDK collects a device identifier used for tracking, coarse location, advertising data, interaction with ads, and crash, performance and other diagnostic data. Those are collected by Google under Google's privacy policy, not by us, and nothing WWT counts is joined to them.

Children

WWT is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your Choices and How to Delete Your Data

Everything you have saved - delete the app, and delete its data from iCloud in iOS Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Account Storage. Because we hold no copy, that removes it.

Trend counts - turn them off in Settings under Your Data, at any time. That stops collection immediately and discards anything not yet sent.

Ad personalization - change your tracking choice in iOS Settings, as above.

Relay cache - entries expire on their own within 30 days and contain nothing identifying you, so there is nothing of yours to request the deletion of. If you want a specific cached post purged sooner, contact us with its URL.

Subscription data - contact us and we will request its deletion from RevenueCat.

What cannot be deleted, and why. The trend counts in section 3 carry nothing that marks them as yours. There is consequently no record of yours to find, and a request to delete your counts is one we could not carry out even if we wished to - not because we decline, but because the data was built so that no such record exists. Turning the setting off prevents any further counting.

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data, and to object to certain processing. Since we hold almost none, most such requests are answered by the paragraphs above - but write to us and we will help.

Licensees of the aggregated trend totals receive no personal data, because the totals contain none. They receive no raw counts, only figures that have been aggregated and had small groups removed as described in section 3.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the effective date above changes and the current version is always the one at this address. Continuing to use WWT after a change means accepting the revised policy.
